Below is the full text of Mr. Francis Appiah’s statement:
“Dear Honorable Minister of Health,
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on your well-deserved appointment as the Minister of Health. Your dedication to healthcare as the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Health has been remarkable, and your new role offers great hope for the advancement of Ghana’s healthcare system.
As a Physician Assistant who has been unemployed for six years, I am optimistic that your leadership will address the challenges facing our profession, particularly the employment of qualified Physician Assistants. Our contribution to healthcare delivery, especially in rural communities where we provide essential primary healthcare services to over 70% of the population, cannot be overstated.
I take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support during my time at the College of Health, Kintampo. When my classmates and I were at risk of dismissal after demonstrating against the school authorities for withholding our degree certificates, your intervention saved us and ensured justice prevailed. Your compassion and dedication to fairness have always stood out, and I am confident that these qualities will define your tenure as Health Minister.
Physician Assistants are crucial to bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility, offering lifesaving services in underserved areas. By prioritizing our deployment, you will not only empower a ready and capable workforce but also strengthen the foundation of our healthcare system for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
I trust in your vision and commitment to improving lives through innovative and sustainable solutions. It is my sincere hope that under your leadership, the plight of unemployed Physician Assistants will be addressed, enabling us to serve our nation effectively.
Wishing you strength, wisdom, and success as you embark on this noble journey to transform healthcare delivery in Ghana.
Yours sincerely,
Francis Appiah
Unemployed Physician Assistant”
