Oliver Barker Denied Bail
The High Court has denied bail to Oliver Barker Vormawor, a leader of the Democracy Hub protest, because he was already out on bail for treason felony charges when he allegedly committed new offences during the protest. The court directed the Circuit Court to start his prosecution within 72 hours, or bail may be granted.
His lawyer argued that the main concern should be whether Barker Vormawor would attend his trial, pointing out that he has been attending his treason trial for three years. However, the judge, citing Section 96(5)(c) of the Criminal Procedure Act (Act 30), which allows the court to deny bail if it believes the accused will commit another offence when released, denied the request for bail.
