As the festive season gathers momentum across the country, public health advocate and media personality Francis Appiah has issued a strong but timely appeal to the general public, urging Ghanaians to place security, health, food safety, and responsible living at the center of their celebrations.

Speaking through Kaakyire on Happy FM, Francis Appiah noted that while the Christmas and New Year period is traditionally marked by joy, travel, family reunions, and social events, it is also a time when avoidable incidents such as road accidents, food poisoning, crime, and health complications tend to increase.

According to him, celebration without caution often leads to regrets that extend far beyond the festive season.

Security Must Remain a Priority

Francis Appiah cautioned that increased movement and crowded public spaces during the festivities can attract criminal activity. He advised members of the public to be vigilant at all times, particularly in markets, lorry stations, churches, mosques, and entertainment centers. He further urged travelers to secure their homes properly before leaving and avoid openly displaying valuables in public.

Road Safety Saves Lives

Touching on road safety, he expressed concern over the consistent rise in road traffic accidents during festive periods. He appealed to drivers to avoid speeding, drunk driving, and reckless overtaking, stressing the need to ensure vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on long journeys. Passengers, he added, must not remain silent when a driver is endangering lives.

Be Careful What You Eat

On food and nutrition, Francis Appiah reminded celebrants that food safety is critical during the season. He advised the public to eat food prepared under hygienic conditions, wash hands regularly, and avoid poorly cooked or exposed meals. He also cautioned against excessive alcohol consumption and urged individuals with chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes to stick to their medications and dietary plans.

Health Comes First

Addressing health issues, he emphasized the importance of malaria prevention by keeping surroundings clean, eliminating stagnant water, and sleeping under treated mosquito nets. He discouraged self-medication and encouraged people to seek prompt medical attention when unwell. Parents and guardians were also advised to supervise children closely to prevent burns, falls, and other domestic accidents.

Spend Wisely, Think Beyond the Festivities

Francis Appiah also touched on financial responsibility, reminding the public that life continues after the celebrations. He advised against unnecessary borrowing and overspending to impress others, urging families to celebrate within their means and plan for the months ahead.

Promote Peace and Unity

On social cohesion, he called on Ghanaians to use the festive season to promote peace, forgiveness, and unity. He encouraged the peaceful resolution of conflicts, respect for cultural and religious differences, and support for the less privileged within society.

In conclusion, Francis Appiah stressed that the true essence of the festive season lies not in extravagance, but in safety, good health, peace, and shared happiness.

“Let this season leave us with joyful memories and not regrets,” he said.

The message was delivered by Kaakyire on Happy FM, wishing listeners across the country a safe, healthy, and peaceful festive season.
