Tricycle Union of Ghana Calls for Designated Stations to Regulate Industry and Boost Revenue

The National Chairman of the Tricycle Union of Ghana, Hamza Hafiz, is urging the government, particularly the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), to provide designated stations for tricycle operators across the country.

According to Hafiz, this move will help regulate the industry, improve revenue collection, and address complaints about rider behavior.

In an interview, Hafiz emphasized that the lack of designated stations contributes to the challenges faced by tricycle operators, making it difficult for authorities to monitor and manage their activities. “When we have a specific place to operate from, it will be easier for us to regulate our members and ensure they adhere to the rules,” he said.

Hafiz also appealed to MMDCEs to collaborate with the union, highlighting the significant role tricycles play in reducing unemployment in Ghana. “Many people were jobless, but now they are breadwinners thanks to the tricycle business,” he noted.

By providing designated stations, the government can help support these entrepreneurs and boost local economies.

The Tricycle Union of Ghana is also working to address concerns about rider behavior, with Hafiz advising operators to maintain good hygiene and treat passengers with respect. “We want our members to be professional and provide excellent service to the public,” he said.

The call for designated stations is part of the union’s efforts to promote a more organized and sustainable tricycle industry in Ghana.
