THE BIG PUSH: ASHAIMAN TO GET INTERCHANGE

Ashaiman has been earmarked to get an interchange under the ongoing Tema Motorway rehabilitation as part of the Big Push agenda. The planned interchange is expected to be constructed at the Underbridge area and will connect Ashaiman, Adjei-Kojo, and Klagon. It is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve daily commuting in the area.

This was announced by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, during a one-on-one interview with Roland Walker on 19th November 2025. He explained that the Ashaiman Interchange is part of the national infrastructure programme outlined in the 2026 Budget.

According to the minister, the Big Push represents one of the largest road infrastructure initiatives in Ghana. More than GH₵60 billion worth of projects have already gone through procurement, with contractors currently working across all regions.

Hon. Agbodza emphasized that the programme is driven by Ghanaian contractors, and most construction materials, including aggregates, are sourced locally to ensure that the economic benefits, including jobs, remain within the country.

He also highlighted that contractors are currently on site working on the Dodowa–Afienya–Ashaiman road, a critical corridor that is part of the ongoing road improvement efforts in the Greater Accra region.

On project timelines, the minister said unnecessary contract variations, which previously caused delays, will not be permitted. Contractors are required to operate within the approved scope and deliver projects on schedule.

He confirmed that government has secured financing for the programme, with some contractors having completed up to 30% of their assigned works. The ministry aims to complete the major Big Push projects by the end of 2027.

The minister concluded that the Ashaiman Interchange remains a priority under the Tema Motorway rehabilitation, while works along the Dodowa–Afienya–Ashaiman road continue to improve connectivity across the region.
