NAIMOS Attack: MP Denies Inciting Youth, Says Police Failed to Acknowledge His Role in Restoring Calm

The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has issued a detailed statement addressing the recent disturbances between residents of Asutifi South and a Military Taskforce deployed on a national assignment (NAIMOS). The incident, which occurred on November 1, 2025, reportedly involved confrontations at a gold extraction site in Hwidiem, resulting in heightened tension in the community.
According to Hon. Addo, he was en route to a funeral at Acherensua when he received reports of the situation. The MP disclosed that he had earlier contacted Hon. Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, who informed him that he was out of the country and requested that Hon. Addo represent him in engaging the security team.
“Upon reaching Hwidiem, I realized there was tension in town, so I inquired and was told there was a military operation going on at a gold extraction site,” he explained. He added that he immediately contacted Hon. Dauda, who asked him to visit the site and speak with the team to understand the situation better.
Hon. Addo stated that he visited the scene in the company of his constituency Vice Chairman and driver, where he met some youth gathered at the site. He advised them to move to the police station to officially make a statement and hand over any items or suspects in their possession to calm the growing tension.
At the police station, he observed that the main road had been blocked, preventing vehicular movement. The MP remained at the station with the military, the Regional Police Crime Officer, NIB operatives, and the Kenyasi Police Commander while statements were being taken.
He also noted that he contacted the Zongo Chief of Hwidiem to assist in calming the situation. After the process, the Zongo Chief volunteered to transport some military officers in his Toyota Sequoia vehicle, which was later reported to have had its rear glasses smashed.
Reacting to reports that he incited the youth against security personnel, Hon. Addo firmly denied any wrongdoing. “I wish to state that under no circumstance will I incite the youth against security officers and any government planned agenda,” he emphasized.
The MP described himself as a responsible lawmaker who worked tirelessly to ensure peace in the area. “I offered my support to ensure there is calmness and will always work together with every security agency to maintain law and order,” he said. He, however, expressed disappointment that the police, in their situation report (sitrep), failed to acknowledge his role in restoring calm.

Hon. Addo urged the public to disregard what he called “false narratives” aimed at tarnishing his reputation and undermining his commitment to his constituents. He reaffirmed his dedication to the welfare and safety of Ghanaians, stressing his readiness to continue collaborating with all state institutions to sustain peace and development.
