GPHA Delegation Participates in IAPH Annual General Meeting in Singapore

The GPHA team joined discussions centred on improving port efficiency, strengthening digital systems, enhancing cargo-handling infrastructure and building climate-resilient ports. Their engagements formed part of Ghana’s broader push to modernise its ports and position them as competitive gateways for West Africa.

The delegation’s trip also reflects the renewed energy in Ghana–Singapore relations, fo President John Dramani Mahama’s state visit to Singapore in August 2025. That visit marked a major milestone in bilateral cooperation and laid the foundation for deeper economic and technical partnerships between the two countries.

During the President’s visit, Ghana secured investment commitments exceeding $1 billion, covering several priority sectors. The two nations also signed a number of Memoranda of Understanding between their foreign ministries and investment promotion agencies, aimed at strengthening coordination and expanding joint areas of work.

Key cooperation areas outlined during the visit include port modernisation, cold-chain logistics, agricultural infrastructure, carbon market collaboration and technical assistance to improve port operations. Singapore further announced plans to host a Ghanaian consulate by 2026 to support trade and diplomatic engagements.

For GPHA, participating in the IAPH meeting enhances its international visibility and gives the Authority access to global best practices. Earlier this year, GPHA won the IAPH Sustainability Award in the Community Building category, demonstrating its growing reputation in sustainable port development.

Officials say the knowledge gained in Singapore will support ongoing reforms at Tema and Takoradi ports. These reforms are expected to reduce vessel turnaround times, improve logistics coordination and expand digital systems across port services.

As Ghana continues to serve as the host country of the AfCFTA Secretariat and positions itself as the primary trade gateway for West Africa, strong ports remain essential. The GPHA delegation is expected to brief the Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies on recommendations and partnership opportunities identified during the meeting.
