ASHAIMAN MP APPOINTED BOARD MEMBER OF THE ROAD MAINTENANCE TRUST FUND

The Government of Ghana has officially appointed Hon. Dr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, as a Board Member of the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, the statutory institution responsible for mobilizing, managing, and disbursing funds for the maintenance, rehabilitation, and sustainability of the country’s road network.

Established under the Road Fund Act, 1997 (Act 536), the Road Maintenance Trust Fund plays a pivotal role in financing routine, periodic, and emergency road maintenance nationwide. It ensures timely payments to contractors, improves planning of road interventions, and promotes the overall safety and motorability of Ghana’s road infrastructure for both commuters and commercial users.

In accordance with Act 536, Hon. Dr. Norgbey will serve with the responsibility of overseeing the national disbursement of road maintenance revenue, ensuring transparency and financial accountability in road expenditure, reinforcing monitoring and auditing structures, and supporting strategic national planning for deteriorated and priority road corridors. His appointment signals a renewed commitment to value-for-money contracting and equitable distribution of road maintenance resources across regions, including underserved and high-traffic urban communities.

Hon. Dr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, a distinguished legislator and development advocate, has earned national recognition for his strong parliamentary oversight, particularly in procurement and public accounts. He possesses advanced academic credentials in governance and procurement management and maintains an admirable record in community-based development, youth empowerment, and infrastructure-focused advocacy. Over the years, his contributions have consistently championed accountability in public finance, improved road safety measures, and the modernization of state infrastructure systems.

With his appointment to the Board, it is expected that Hon. Dr. Norgbey will bring strategic direction, strengthen procurement discipline, enhance financial transparency, and promote innovative approaches to road sustainability, including better drainage systems and planned maintenance schedules. His role should help ensure that both urban and peri-urban communities receive fair consideration in the allocation of road maintenance resources.

Some party executives and constituents have lauded the appointment, describing it as long overdue. Considering Ashaiman’s prominence as a political stronghold, representation at the Board level is expected to further support responsive road interventions not only in Ashaiman but across the country. Many see the appointment as recognition of his service ethos, technical competence, and longstanding commitment to infrastructure equity.

But the question remains as to whether this appointment will actually lead to real improvements in the roads of the Ashaiman township.
